Squid Game, Netflix’s worldwide hit survival series, will be renewed for a second season. During Netflix’s fourth-quarter 2021 earnings call, Ted Sarandos, co-CEO and chief content officer, confirmed the return of Squid Game.
“Absolutely, The Squid Game universe has just begun” Ted replied.
With 1.65 billion hours streamed in the first 28 days of its premiere, Squid Game is apparently Netflix’s most popular TV show. The plot follows a group of contestants as they engage in a series of dangerous children’s games in order to win a $38.5 million jackpot. Hwang Dong-hyuk, the developer of Squid Game, hinted about a second season last year.
According to confidential corporate data released to Bloomberg, Netflix spent $21.4 million for the first season of “Squid Game” and estimates the series will generate $891 million in “impact value.”
